It is a tautology to say that Indian art is diverse and spans a vast time period from the mists f antiquity when the human species first developed the tools for self expression to the intricate art forms that proliferated during the last 1500 years. We will start with particular art forms and then try to develop a pattern and history for this art form. But first some references on Indian history and in  particular the history of Indian art
